Calculating days in the US

I’ve needed to calculate the number of days i’ve been in the US for at least two different purposes, and a friend told me about a third:

  1. Non-resident US tax return substantial presence test
  2. Green card application
  3. US citizenship N-400 application for naturalization

It’s difficult to do that because i had to go through entry and exit stamps in my passport, which are obviously spread across random pages, and a pain to do.

I created a Google sheet, which made the job easier.

Each row represents a trip, and as i find stamps, i fill in parts of an existing row (or create a new row).

Here is the sheet, if you find this useful, copy it and send it to friends.

(Edit, fixed off-by-one error on July 5th)

I was also pointed to this handy site built by a co-worker, which can use the details in your I-94 to populate this table.
